MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS | Queen Charlotte & Lochmara Bay

Just stopping by with a few photo highlights from our relaxing getaway to the Sounds this New Year break. After 4 days cycling the West Coast Wilderness Trail, we ventured north to Picton and hopped on a water taxi to Lochmara Bay, away from the comforts of 4G reception into the scary realm of 2 bar 3G! Our tour guide (Franky 😅) took us through the bush to the ridge line where the Queen Charlotte Track traverses, and from there we headed up to Onahau Lookout for some stunning views across the layers of the Marlborough mountains.

We were treated to some bluebird days, windless with scorching temperatures, as well as some beautiful sunrises. With little to do on our plates, we spent the time watching the skates by the jetty (they look similar to sting rays), swimming in the cool bay waters, playing Bananagrams and Muffin Time, and getting lost trying to do the loop walk up to the Queen Charlotte Track, over to Lochmara Lodge and back down to the bay!

Check out the video below of our getaway to the Sounds, and keep an eye out for the cycle trail post coming soon!
